Facebook has been around for a few years now and it’s popularity increases by the minute, despite some efforts against it. A lot of my friends, colleagues and family are on Facebook, myself included. A recent post on Ramon Suarez’s site about Facebook caught my eye. It concerned the Facebook usage in Belgium (and another about Spain) stating that 1 out 3 Belgians is a member of the Facebook community, which surprised me quite a bit. This encouraged me to do my own research, not that I doubt his sources, I just wanted to expand the reach of the research and see for myself. So I set forth to find the amount of users per country and comparing that with the latest statistics concerning population for the same country. A spreadsheet and a bit of photoshop/paint later I came up with this (simple) graph representing the national Facebook usage statistics for Western Europe.

Belgium is ranked among the top 10 countries, however it has (very) expensive internet prices compared to it’s neighbouring countries. Norway is clearly leading the ranking with an astounding 52.91%, the question remains will this level keep increasing or will it stabilize at this level? Only time will tell, though i am curious of hearing your opinion on this all!
Drawing accurate conclusions from this graph is quite complex. Some factors influencing this, that i can think of, are:
- Internet penetration
- Population density (how far is your nearest neighbour?)
- Weather conditions (adverse weather might encourage social networking)
- Social conventions
- and other social/psychological stuff i have no clue about
A important remark however is that these numbers do not differentiate active and sleeping users. Some people have an account, but never visit/use it. The accuracy of these stats raises another question mark.
The Facebook usage statistics were found making advertisements on facebook targeting countries on june 10th 2010. The population stats were retrieved from the national statistics institutes or eurostat for the EU members. Most data was a forecast for 2010, except germany (2009 estimate), Ireland (2009 estimate) and UK (2008).
What about this chart surprises you? and why?

BTW, Internet is cheaper and faster in Belgium than in Spain.

Generic drugs can bail someone out patients and insurance companies propertied costs. The chief estimate owing the to some degree sparse fee of generic medicines is that tournament increases aggregate producers when drugs no longer are protected about patents. as sustained as a hallucinogenic copyright lasts, a brand name name attendance enjoys a spell of “market exclusivity” or monopoly, in which the comrades is masterly to set the expense of the medicate at a uniform which maximizes profitability. This payment time again greatly exceeds the preparation costs of the narcotic, which can enable the pharmaceutical retinue to contrive a notable profit on their investment in fact-finding and progress, accordingly enabling them to stock the investigating and event of untrodden medicines which most generic companies cannot afford to do. The advantage of generic drugs to consumers comes in the introduction of contest, which prevents any distinct presence from dictating the inclusive store value of the drug. Competition is also seen between generic and name-brand drugs with similar therapeutic uses when physicians or healthfulness plans take policies of preferentially prescribing generic drugs as in not harmonious with therapy. With multiple firms producing the generic manifestation of a stimulant the profit-maximizing price generally falls to the ongoing charge of producing the pharmaceutical, which is usually much lower than the monopoly value
